The Whisky Trail -
Start your 'Whisky Trail' at Glendronach distillery. Glendronach was
the last coal fired still left in Scotland but, the distillery had
to change in 2006 due to new pollution regulations. The distillery
was built in 1826 and maintained many of its original
characteristics including floor malting that contributes to about a
fifth of their requirements. It is believed that an illicit
production was in place long before 1826. The distillery was closed
for a time but was reopened in 2003. Glendronach is only a few miles
from Country Steading Holiday accommodation
and will put you on the trail to over 30 other distilleries in the
Area. |

Fyvie Castle - Ghosts, legends
and folklore are all woven into the tapestry of Fyvie’s 800-year
history. Each tower of this magnificent Scottish Baronial fortress
is traditionally associated with one of the castle’s five successive
families – Preston, Meldrum, Seton, Gordon and Forbes-Leith. You can
see their influences today among the medieval stones and the lavish
Edwardian interiors, and imagine what castle life must have been
like for the families and their royal guests – among them Robert the
Bruce and Charles I. |
