Glendronach Distillery - Tun Room

The Whisky Trail - Start your 'Whisky Trail' at Glendronach distillery. Glendronach was the last coal fired still left in Scotland but, the distillery had to change in 2006 due to new pollution regulations. The distillery was built in 1826 and maintained many of its original characteristics including floor malting that contributes to about a fifth of their requirements. It is believed that an illicit production was in place long before 1826. The distillery was closed for a time but was reopened in 2003. Glendronach is only a few miles from Country Steading Holiday accommodation and will put you on the trail to over 30 other distilleries in the Area.

Fyvie Castle - Ghosts, legends and folklore are all woven into the tapestry of Fyvie’s 800-year history. Each tower of this magnificent Scottish Baronial fortress is traditionally associated with one of the castle’s five successive families – Preston, Meldrum, Seton, Gordon and Forbes-Leith. You can see their influences today among the medieval stones and the lavish Edwardian interiors, and imagine what castle life must have been like for the families and their royal guests – among them Robert the Bruce and Charles I.

MacDuff Marine Aquarium, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

MacDuff Marine Aquarium - Situated on Aberdeenshire’s scenic coast in the traditional fishing town of Macduff, Macduff Marine Aquarium features marine life from the Moray Firth, Scotland’s largest bay, in a variety of exciting and innovative exhibits. Visitors come face to face with hundreds of native fish and invertebrates normally only seen by SCUBA divers who brave the chilly waters of the North Sea.

The aquarium’s deep central exhibit, which displays a living kelp reef, is the only one of its kind in Britain and divers hand feed the fish on a regular basis.
